Sometimes your subject is unexpected. I took this photo while focusing on agriculture, and my original thought was to try to do something with the hay bales in the background, but the thistles in the foreground got my attention, and became the focus instead. This is central California.

Kaweah River
The Kaweah River flows through Sequoia National Park in the Sierra Nevada of California. The name comes from the Yokuts language, meaning crow (or perhaps raven). I was intrigued by this segment of rapids and the possibilities it presented as a subject. My goal was to capture the motion of the water.
Pelican in Flight
This photo was taken at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. It was created in in response to the damaging effect of rising levels of the Great Salt Lake on wildlife, and in particular, migratory bird species.
